The Phi Phi Islands sit at the top of most first-timers' bucket lists.
With our maps of hotels, attractions, and transport, you can easily understand the islands and avoid common mistakes.
Phi Phi Location Map: Where are They?

The Phi Phi Islands sit on the Andaman Sea of southern Thailand. You can reach them by a 1-hour speedboat or a 2-hour ferry from Phuket or Krabi, and about half that time from Koh Lanta.
Phi Phi Attractions Map: Top Things to Do

To read this map quickly: Phi Phi Don = where you stay and eat, Phi Phi Leh = famous movie scenery, Outer Islands = snorkeling spots.
Phi Phi Don (Big Island):
- Phi Phi Viewpoint — classic two-bays panorama, the shot everyone posts.
- Monkey Beach — fun short stop; macaques usually appear.
- Long Beach — Best sunrise spot on the island. Quieter, ideal for couples or families seeking a relaxed beach day.
- Tonsai Village / Pier — where boats arrive and where all cafés, shops, and nightlife sit.
Phi Phi Leh (Small Island):
- Maya Bay — The Beach film location. Postcard-perfect curve of sand and cliffs; no swimming; busiest during mid-morning day-trip rush.
- Pileh Lagoon — emerald lagoon perfect for photos and quick dips.
- Viking Cave — a "drive-by" stop to learn about the historic bird's nest collection and wall paintings.
Outer Islands / Nearby Spots:
- Bamboo Island — soft white sand+quiet beach + snorkel-friendly reefs.
- Mosquito Island—Tiny, uninhabited, mostly visited for snorkeling and short boat stops.
- Ko Bida Nok / Bida Nai — Top snorkeling and diving sites with vibrant coral reefs and abundant fish.
- Shark Point — reliable blacktip shark sightings for confident snorkelers.
Phi Phi Hotels Map: Where to Stay on the Islands
Hotel options on Phi Phi are limited, and there are no true high-end resorts. Many travelers stay in Phuket, Krabi, or Koh Lanta and do Phi Phi as a day trip for better comfort.
If you do want to stay overnight for a slower pace, Phi Phi Don is the only island with hotels, and each area feels very different:
- Tonsai Village & Loh Dalum Bay: Most convenient spot to everything, lively at night; light sleepers should skip this area.
- Long Beach: great balance between peace and accessibility; best sunrise spot.
- Laem Thong / Loh Ba Kao: the quietest area; secluded boutique resorts with long empty beaches.

Phi Phi Transportation Map: How to Get to and Around
How to Reach Phi Phi Islands
You can typically depart from Phuket, Krabi, or Koh Lanta by boat. Check their travel times on the map.
Phuket is the most common starting point as it offers more flights to connect other Thai cities, more boat choices, and lower prices to Phi Phi Island.
Important tip:
- Choose ferries if you get seasick—they're more stable.
- Avoid planning same-day flight and boat connections. Even in good weather, boat schedules can shift, and delays become more common in the rainy season—especially for afternoon crossings. It's safer and far more relaxed to stay a night in Phuket or Krabi when you fly in or out.

Getting Around the Islands
Phi Phi Islands are car-free, so you'll explore Phi Phi Don mainly on foot or by boat.
On Phi Phi Leh and the outer islands, all exploration is by boat. Kayaks and paddleboards work well for short coastal trips.
Phi Phi Itinerary Map: How Long to Spend

1 Day (most popular & most practical)
If you're short on time, a day trip from Phuket or Krabi is the simplest, most comfortable way to see Phi Phi.
You'll hit all the highlights—Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, Bamboo Island.
Boats run on similar routes, so crowds are normal. Choose the earliest departure for a calmer experience.
A day trip can feel long, but it avoids the accommodation trade-offs on the island.
2 Days (only if you want slower mornings and sunsets)
If you don't mind the simpler hotels and want to explore beyond the standard day-trip loop:
- Day 1: Arrive in the morning; join a sunset tour to Shark Point and Phi Phi Leh.
- Day 2: Morning trip to Bamboo Island; leave in the afternoon.
Staying one night helps you dodge the peak crowds and enjoy early mornings and sunsets when the island is at its best.
