The provice capital Sukhothai is split in two parts. The New Sukhothai part is a typical modern Thai style city with virtually nothing of interest except the Old Sukhothai 12 km to the west. Unlike Ayuthaya, where the ancient ruins are spread throughout the town, Sukhothai's ruins are separated in an area outside of the modern town. Old Sukhothai Historical Park is a huge area full of ruins in various stages of restoration which is well worth a visit.

The Sukhothai historical park covers the ruins of the old Sukhothai that was the capital of the Sukhothai kingdom from the 14th century, which today is situated in the north of Thailand.

Sukhothai Loy Krathong Festival |
Loy Krathong or Loi Kratong is a festival celebrated each year throughout Thailand. It is held on the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai calendar (November), the festival was original started in Sukhothai.
